Contemporary Gallery

The EXHIBITION

The Contemporary Collection of the Arts Center features 38 artists who have exhibited in the Vereen Gallery or who have had a personal relationship with the Arts Center. The collection began in 1986 with the works purchased from the Georgia Council of the Arts from their Arts Acquisition Program. Arts institutions were able to meet the artists and purchase their original works with funds supplemented by the Council. Throughout the years other works were acquired through memorial funds, individual donations, gift of estates and as gifts of the artists that were exhibiting in the Vereen Gallery.

The Contemporary Collection offers the opportunity for viewers to explore various mediums and creative expressions. Many of the artists in the collection have regional, national and international name recognition. The goal of the Acquisition Committee for the Arts Center continues to reflect the mission of the Arts Center by acting as a cultural resource for the visual arts and by. providing museum quality collections for a diverse audience.
